Granco Trucks Club Down Golf Classic 2010
A full compliment of teams came out to play at the 2010 Granco Trucks Club Down Golf Classic played at Warrenpoint Golf Club on Friday (28th), leading to a varied result when the cards came in at the end of the day.
In addition to the main classic competition, there was plenty of interest in the GAA clubs section for the Sean O'Neill Cup, won in recent years by Dromara, Attical, Glassdrumman, Downpatrick and Clonduff. The Sean O'Neill cup went to Ballymartin GAC who were represented by Marie McKibben, Ross Cunningham, Gary Philips and Austin Crawford.
The main classic competition was won by Killowen Contracts who were represented by Maurice McGivern, Damian McGivern, Conor Kelly and Fergal McConaghy
There was a separate competition for society teams and this was won by the four-ball of Kevin McKernan, Michael McCann, Chris Carroll and Down trainer Paddy Tally.
At the prize-giving Vincent McGovern on behalf of Club Down commended the hospitality and help of the officers, council and staff of Warrenpoint Golf Club. He also thanked all competitors and sponsors, especially main sponsor Patrick Grant of Granco Trucks. Seamus Walsh, representing Coiste Chontae An Dun, expressed thanks to the dedicated organising committee of Vincent McGovern, James & Mary McGrath, Patsy Quinn, Peter Rooney, Jimmy Kelly and Michael Keenan.
